NEWS RELEASE
SHAW TAKES NEW DIRECTION
CALGARY, AB (December 6th, 2005) — Shaw Communications Inc. announced that it is resigning from the Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (“CCTA”) effective today.
As the telecommunications and broadcasting industries evolve, it is becoming increasingly clear that the member companies of the CCTA have divergent interests and differing strategic objectives making it difficult to build industry-wide consensus on various issues. Shaw believes that it will be better served by pursuing its own strategies and developing its own objectives without the added burden of seeking industry consensus.
Shaw Communications Inc. is a diversified Canadian communications company whose core business is providing broadband cable television, High-Speed Internet, Digital Phone, telecommunications services (through Big Pipe Inc.) and satellite direct-to-home services (through Star Choice Communications Inc.) to approximately 3.0 million customers. Shaw is traded on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges and is included in the S&P/TSX 60 index (Symbol: TSX - SJR.NV.B, NYSE - SJR).
