FALLS CHURCH, VA, January 20, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Fitch Law Firm LLC proudly announces the winner of the 2022 Sexual Abuse Survivor Scholarship, Maria Wrona. Maria is a Pre-Law student at the University of Virginia. As a survivor of sexual assault herself, she has dedicated her future legal career to fighting for victims' rights. She entered college with a 4.4 GPA from high school, the period of time during which she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of a tennis coach. After bravely sharing her story and through continued therapy, she is thriving in her studies and hopes to continue them in a prestigious law school.
The Fitch Law Firm LLC proudly represents sexual abuse survivors in and out of the courtroom. Through the firm's Sexual Abuse Survivor Scholarship, John Fitch hopes to educate the public about the laws revolving around sexual abuse and the challenges survivors often face seeking justice. The scholarship requires applicants to compose an essay stating how they are taking control of their lives after a history of abuse, and how they will ultimately use their education to improve their opportunities going forward.
After Maria's family came to the U.S. from Poland, she was inspired by her father's work ethic and personal accountability. When it was time for her to stand up to her abuser, she endured three long months of depression from the trauma many abuse survivors experience when they tell their stories. She remained strong throughout it, kept her grades up, and sought the therapy she needed. Now, she hopes to inspire other sexual abuse survivors to come forward to seek justice and help with their mental health.
She is currently an active member of three of her university's organizations: the Pre-Law Organization, a Polish student group, and the university's judicial system. She also enjoys babysitting for her family and friends when visiting her hometown and is currently looking for law-related internships to pursue during the summer breaks.
