LOS ANGELES, CA, September 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cayenne Wellness Center and Children's Foundation (CWC) and Axis Advocacy are pleased to host the 16th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Educational Summit, September 18 – 24, 2024. Sickle cell disease affects approximately 100,000 Black, Latinx, and Indigenous Americans across the US. CWC serves the entire state of California, where over 7,000 people have SCD; CWC is based in Southern California, where more than 50% of those living with SCD in California reside.

About Sickle Cell Disease: SCD is a life-threatening genetic disorder most common among African American and Hispanic American persons and is associated with many acute and chronic complications requiring immediate medical attention. Structural racism and implicit bias affect the allocation of resources toward research, healthcare delivery, and quality improvement.
Sickle cell disease (sickle cell anemia, sickle hemoglobin C disease, sickle hemoglobin D disease, sickle hemoglobin E disease, sickle hemoglobin O disease, and sickle beta thalassemia) is a group of hereditary disorders affecting red blood cells. Two genes for sickle hemoglobin must be inherited from one's parents to have the disease.
Founded in Glendale, CA, in 2000, Cayenne Wellness Center and Children's Foundation (CWC), a 501(c)3 organization, was first established with a broad vision of general public health and wellness. They now help address the urgent needs of adults with sickle cell disease (SCD), the SCD community of caregivers, healthcare providers, and social support organizations. CWC's mission is to increase the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with SCD in California by ensuring expert, unbiased, accessible, and comprehensive care.
