MIAMI, June 29, 2021 /3BL Media/ — Following the building collapse in Surfside last Thursday, American Airlines is partnering with United Way of Miami-Dade to provide travel assistance and help reunite families that were impacted by the tragic event.
“Last week, our community was devastated by the collapse of Surfside’s Champlain Towers. Our hearts go out to all of those affected by this devastating tragedy,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of Miami Hub Operations. “As the hometown airline, American is committed to caring for our community by providing immediate assistance to the families that have been affected by this tragedy. In partnership with United Way of Miami-Dade, we hope to be able to provide relief by reuniting families.”
Many residents of the Surfside community have family members abroad or throughout the United States. To help them reunite during this difficult time, American is donating 3 million AAdvantage® miles to United Way of Miami-Dade to coordinate travel arrangements for families that are trying to get to Surfside.
“We are grateful for partners such as American Airlines with a shared commitment to the community we serve,” said Maria C. Alonso, United Way of Miami-Dade’s President and CEO. “During times of crisis in particular, our United Way is proud to bring together a network of partners, individuals and resources to lift our community. We thank our colleagues at American Airlines for helping reunite families during this very difficult time.”
American has served Miami-Dade for more than three decades at Miami International Airport (MIA). The airline employs more than 11,000 team members with an operation of more than 290 daily flights to more than 110 destinations.
