New book "The Boy Who Could Smell Warming" by Patrick Fleming is released, an inspiring story for young readers about finding unique gifts, loving support, and the potential to change the world

“The Boy Who Could Smell Warming” by Patrick Fleming has been released worldwide. This 41-page children’s book tells the story of Reuben Otis O’Brien, a ten-year-old who senses strange smells that no one else seems to notice. The young man takes it upon himself to investigate, and soon discovers that he has a special power that could help the entire world.

Written in language accessible to budding readers and interspersed with delightful illustrations, this inspiring story shows that everyone has unique strengths – even those who are thought of as “different” – and that finding those strengths gives each individual a chance to make the world a better place. Because of Reuben Otis’s special power, the book also teaches readers about environmentalism and doing their part to take care of the planet.

As Reuben Otis learns about his superpower, he leans on the support and encouragement of those around him, driving home the message that kids need friends and “sidekicks” to help them discover their best qualities – and that they can do the same for the people around them.

Throughout the story, Fleming’s dynamic characters and educational moments impart valuable lessons for readers of all ages and backgrounds, from the encouragement to find and embrace individual strengths to the opportunity for every person to help heal the planet. This wonderful story is both entertaining and informative, showing young people that they can achieve amazing things, no matter who they perceive themselves to be.

The Boy Who Could Smell Warming (ISBN: 9781963844573) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The paperback retails for $19.99, and the ebook retails for $2.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.

From the back cover:

There was always something exceptional and different about ten-year-old Reuben Otis O’Brien. But no one, including Reuben Otis himself, can figure out quite what it is. All that he knows is that he can smell something very strange that no one else can, and sometimes it makes him sick.

The Boy Who Could Smell Warming is the story of Reuben Otis’s quest to discover his special ability and its purpose. Since, as he describes himself, Reuben Otis is a “nerd in a cool guy’s body,” he does his own scientific investigation and finds out that he possesses a very unusual superpower which is vital for the whole world and will make him a true superhero. As he starts to use his superpower with the help of his family and two neighborhood friends, he learns he can change things vital to his hometown and to the entire planet. This gives Reuben Otis a newfound pride and a whole new direction to his life.
