Hugh D. Fuller Jr.'s Top 3 Reasons to Become a Powerboat Racing Fan

BOCA RATON, FL / ACCESSWIRE / August 17, 2021 / While it may not be in the sports headlines every day, powerboat racing commands quite the crowd. With hundreds of thousands of fans, powerboat racing could be considered the NASCAR of the water. Alongside the race and the fans, there comes a whole culture surrounding powerboat races.

Giving us a unique insider perspective, six-time powerboat racing world champion Hugh Fuller tells us what he thinks the top three reasons are to be a powerboat racing fan.

The Event

It might be the race itself that draws the crowds, but there is a lot more to do than just watch the experts navigate the water. Powerboat racing events are just that: events filled with banquets, photo booths, raffles, BBQs, block parties, and more exciting activities. Furthermore, the races often take place in some of the country's most charming cities including Englewood, Key West, and Clearwater, Florida.

"My attention was mainly focused on the race of course, but my family would tell me all about the fun activities around the event," recalls Hugh D. Fuller. "We would all go together to the banquets as well. Meeting the fans was awesome, and seeing everyone gathered to watch us race was really incredible."

The Community

As Fuller alludes to, the powerboat racing fan community is a special one. People travel hundreds of miles to watch their favorite racers compete on the water. Becoming a fan of the sport means inclusion into a community of over one million fans. It's a fantastic way to meet new people, as well as to fully immerse yourself into the fast-paced, exhilarating sport.

"I was always amazed at the number of people that traveled from all over to support us," says Hugh D. Fuller Jr. "My own family has made several life-long friendships with the people we've met throughout the years. I may be a bit biased, but powerboat racing fans are the best."

The Race

Beyond the surrounding events and the community, there's the race itself. There's no other sport quite like powerboat racing, which features racers driving their boats up to speeds of over 180 mph over dangerous waters. The race is bound to keep fans at the edge of their seats.

"It's fun to watch people drive fast things," says Hugh D. Fuller. "That's what I always loved about racecar driving and now powerboat racing. My family always tells me that they're gripping the edge of their seats when I'm racing. It's quite an experience to be a part of!"

Whether it's the surrounding event, the community, or the race itself that draws your attention, there's something for everyone to enjoy at a powerboat race. As Hugh Fuller explains, the connections made and people met at powerboat races can last a lifetime.
