UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / December 17, 2024 / Marquis Who's Who honors John Hubbel Weiss, PhD, for humanitarianism and justice. Dr. Weiss' latest project is a cable TV series titled "Unity with Ukraine: A High Five from America: Testimony, Tributes, Analysis."
Dr. Weiss is an associate professor emeritus at Cornell University, where he taught European history, genocide and human rights for over 45 years. Known for his dedication to education and humanitarianism, he has held visiting roles at Princeton, MIT, Korea University and Tuzla University in Bosnia, among others. He has contributed to causes such as protesting against the Darfur genocide in Sudan.
Dr. Weiss founded the Caceres-Neuffer Genocide Action Group to raise awareness and provide relief. Now, through unity with Ukraine, he continues to advocate for justice globally.
Through "Unity with Ukraine," Dr. Weiss introduces audiences to the diverse ways Americans are standing in solidarity with Ukraine amid ongoing conflict. "This shows more than storytelling," Dr. Weiss explains. "It's about demonstrating that people across the U.S. are actively engaged in supporting Ukraine. The stakes are high, and Americans are stepping up."
With first-hand experience in conflict zones, Dr. Weiss understands the gravity of such support. He went to Bosnia and Ethiopia to conduct research meant to mobilize support for Ukraine. His trips included interactions with a Bosnian ambassador to Russia who feared Vladimir Putin and an interpreter for the Dutch UN forces who lost his whole family. These are among the personalities who will appear in the show.
In his new series, Dr. Weiss will introduce audiences to individuals who share a passion for justice and international solidarity. "These are voices that don't often reach mainstream platforms," he notes. "Each story will illustrate profound challenges faced by people on the ground, giving viewers a more personal understanding of the conflict's realities."
Dr. Weiss' commitment to humanitarianism and education has shaped his career, which spans more than half a century. A respected historian, he served at Cornell University for over 45 years, which included teaching 20th-century European history, World War II and the social history of technology.
Throughout his tenure, Dr. Weiss taught over 5,000 students and advised 1,300 on academic and career paths. His past initiatives include launching "How to Spell Presbyterian," a cable series exploring topics from religious views to international crises. The series ran for six years and produced more than 130 episodes, including the first American video on the Darfur genocide.
This new project, "Unity with Ukraine," continues that legacy of awareness and advocacy. For Dr. Weiss, the show represents a call to action. He believes Americans must remain engaged and proactive about Ukraine's future, noting that a stable Ukraine will require massive post-conflict support.
Dr. Weiss recently joined 600 advocates from across the country on a lobbying trip to Washington, D.C., to support a $61 billion package for Ukraine. However, he sees the cable show as a complementary effort supporting the ongoing assistance from the U.S. "Ukraine's big victory and subsequent rebuilding are essential to regional stability," he emphasizes.
Beyond his activism, Dr. Weiss continues to explore new ways of connecting with his audience, learning video production software and developing content that resonates with the digital generation. He and his wife, Elaine, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Together, they enjoy gardening, kayaking and walking in the woods.
With "Unity with Ukraine," Dr. Weiss invites audiences to witness the stories of those fighting for freedom and justice. He hopes this project will inspire viewers to stay informed and actively support Ukraine's path to peace.
