GeoStabilization International Expands Capabilities with New Cased Drilling Services

State-of-the-art fleet added to aid in cased micropiles, tiebacks, and compact grouting solutions

WESTMINSTER, CO / ACCESSWIRE / December 19, 2024 / GeoStabilization International, the leading geohazard mitigation team in North America, has expanded its services to include a new fleet of equipment for cased drilling. With this expanded fleet and its team of dedicated in-house engineers, the company furthers its commitment to providing value-added geotechnical solutions for earth retention, foundations, and ground improvement.

"At GeoStabilization International, we constantly aim to be leading players in the industries we serve. That means extensive market research, listening to the needs of our customers, and leveraging our in-house engineering capabilities and established industry relationships to advance new solutions," said Rouse Slape, Market Development Manager, GeoStabilization International. "Expanding our fleet of equipment and services in cased drilling allows us to provide more of the cost-effective designs our engineers are known for, to more customers. The larger fleet increases our ability to meet our customer's needs for cased micropiles, tiebacks and compaction grouting."

Cased drilling is a technique that involves installing cased micropiles as the hole is drilled, section by section. The method of drilling aids in the stabilization of unstable foundations and mitigates hazards that can occur when drilling in soft, shallow sections. Cased drilling is also used when ground conditions make drilling difficult, such as through fractured rock or loose formations.

The Case for Cased Micropiles
A cased micropile is a micropile with a high-strength steel casing of a similar small diameter into which steel reinforcement is then inserted, centralized, and grouted in place using a cased drill. This type of micropile provides a value-add solution for new foundations or foundations in hard-to-access locations or that require enhanced strength and reliability.

  • Strength: The added casings provide considerable strength advantage over standard micropiles and allow for transmit both lateral and axial loads through weak soils to solid rock at greater depths.

  • Reliability: Cased micropiles can be drilled through weak soil confidently and without worrying about the soil collapsing into the excavation.

  • Versatility: The equipment required to install micropiles can be selected to include narrow, short, and lightweight rigs - making them suitable for low-headroom sites such as on slopes, basements of buildings, or where rigs need to be hoisted by a crane, or equipped with larger masts allowing for more cost-effective installation methods where the project site is large enough.

The new fleet of cased drilling services further expands GeoStabilization International's portfolio of earth retention, foundations, and ground improvement solutions.
