AVIA Honors Top Industry Performance at Second Annual Digital Transformation Healthcare Awards

AVIAwards Highlight Top Performing Health Systems Leading the Industry in Operational Efficiency, Patient Engagement, Care Optimization, and More

AVIA, the nation’s leading healthcare digital transformation partner, has announced the winners of its second annual AVIAwards for Digital Transformation. This annual awards program celebrates leading health systems forging the future of healthcare by using digital capabilities to improve operational efficiency, optimize care, and better engage patients and consumers. This year’s award winners include Ochsner Health, Boston Children’s Hospital, University of Kansas Health System, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, MemorialCare, Memorial Hermann Health System, and NorthShore Edward-Elmhurst Health.

AVIA worked with its Digital Innovation Leaders Steering Committee, a group of digital leaders from six health systems, to determine the key performance metrics. Through one of its proprietary benchmarking surveys, AVIA gathered data about the health systems’ adoption of, and engagement with, digital health solutions that enable healthcare consumers to conveniently and safely access care based on personal preferences. For the first time, AVIA also measured deployment of solutions driving critical improvements in operational efficiency, care optimization, and patient and consumer engagement and honored winners with the new Vanguard Awards. Over 35 health systems participated in the survey, representing more than 23 million unique patients and 12 million patient portal users.

For the second year in a row, NorthShore Edward-Elmhurst Health, an integrated health system serving more than 4 million people, was awarded the top honor of “Best Digital Consumer Performance” for achieving the highest scores across eight core metrics. Health systems were ranked according to their ability to meet consumers’ expectations for convenient and digitally enabled care experiences in categories such as patient portals, online scheduling, and virtual visits.

“It is an honor for NorthShore – Edward Elmhurst Health to be recognized as a system with AVIA’s Best Digital Consumer Performance award,“ said Kristen Murtos, Chief Innovation & Transformation Officer, NorthShore Edward-Elmhurst Health. “It reinforces our commitment as a leader in digital transformation to driving value and enabling seamless and personalized experiences for both our patients and providers. It is a meaningful recognition of the vision and work of our teams to have a leading organization like AVIA acknowledge our impact.”

Additional award recipients include:

  • Ochsner Health was honored with the “Best in Online Scheduling” AVIAward, which recognizes the health system with the highest percentage of appointments scheduled with an online tool in both primary and specialty care.
  • Boston Children’s Hospital was awarded the “Best in Virtual Visits” AVIAward for having the highest percentage of completed ambulatory visits for primary care and specialty care that occurred virtually through the use of video technology.
  • The University of Kansas Health System was honored with the Operational Efficiency Vanguard award.
  • Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin was recognized with the Care Optimization Vanguard award.
  • MemorialCare and Memorial Hermann Health System tied for first place in the Consumer and Patient Engagement Vanguard award category.

“We are excited to share our AVIAward winners for the program’s second year,” said Linda Finkel, CEO of AVIA. “As the largest network of health system strategy, digital, and innovation leaders in the country, we have the privilege of knowing where health systems are taking action - and what’s working - in digital transformation. We know that health systems with integrated, enterprise digital plans will be better positioned for sustainability and success in the future, but measurement of progress and performance in digital has been hard to track. That is why we built out digital performance analytics, like our benchmarking survey, to evaluate progress, measure impact, and make data-driven decisions on digital investments.”

Winners of the AVIAwards for Digital Transformation were announced at the annual AVIA Network Summit, an invitation-only event held in Chicago on May 9 focused on Forging the Future of healthcare. Health system leaders who want to see how they compare to peers can participate in AVIA’s latest digital maturity survey.
