First Annual Cultural Celebration Day in Lansing, Illinois Calls For Participants

Fox Pointe in Lansing, Illinois will host August 17, 2024 event

The Village of Lansing, Illinois is calling for participants for its first annual Cultural Celebration Day Saturday, Aug. 17 from noon to 8:30 p.m. at Fox Pointe.

“When guests visit our celebration, we want them to hear something they’ve never heard before, taste something they’ve never tasted before, and see something they’ve never seen before,” said Mayor Patricia L. Eidam.

Cultural societies can introduce their heritage to the thousands of guests expected to attend with free 6-foot exhibit space. Organizations are encouraged to bring displays, brochures, and giveaways to distribute.

While main stage performances have been booked, the pavilion stage still has 30-minute time slots available. The event planning committee is seeking performing artists to honor their cultural background through music, dance, theatre, and storytelling; compensation is negotiable.

The committee is also seeking artisans and visual artists to sell their professional work at the event. Arts and crafts such as clothing, fiber, and leather; glassworks, ceramics, and woodworking; decor, painting, and drawings; books and any other items that clearly and positively demonstrate cultural heritage are sought. A 10-foot x 10-foot space with electricity is $75 until July 17. Artists and sellers must supply tents, tables, and any display hardware.

Food, dessert, and non-alcoholic drink vendors are also sought to provide traditional, representational, and authentic fare. Negotiable space size with electricity is $75 until July 17. Vendors must supply tents or trucks and any other hardware and supplies.

Interested organizations, performing artists, visual artists, and food and drink vendors are encouraged to apply at www.foxpointe.org/event/cultural-celebration as soon as possible as space is limited.

“Millions of people make up our unique and vibrant Chicagoland, continuing beautiful traditions from around the globe,” said Mayor Eidam. “On Cultural Celebration Day, we hope to bring together as many as possible.”
