National Philanthropic Trust Appoints Holly Welch Stubbing President and Chief Executive Officer

Welch Stubbing joins the donor-advised fund public charity with more than 25 years of global philanthropy, leadership, and endowment investing experience

The Board of Trustees of National Philanthropic Trust (NPT), the largest national, independent public charity that manages donor-advised funds (DAFs), and one of the largest grantmaking organizations in the world, is pleased to announce the appointment of Holly Welch Stubbing as NPT’s new president and chief executive officer.

Welch Stubbing will assume her roles effective July 1, 2024, upon the retirement of Eileen R. Heisman from NPT. Heisman has led the organization since 1998.

“Holly has all the attributes we wanted in the next leader of NPT and its exceptionally talented team,” said Linda K. Myers, board chair, National Philanthropic Trust. “She immediately impressed our board with her decades of experience in the philanthropy sector and her strategic vision. Along with her proven leadership skills and organizational growth experience, Holly excels at assessing an organization and identifying its future needs to flourish. These skills, as well as her keen focus on client service, will deliver long-term value for NPT.”

Welch Stubbing joins National Philanthropic Trust after serving since 2017 as president and CEO of E4E Relief, a national charitable organization offering emergency financial relief programs for global companies and communities. E4E Relief has awarded more than $260 million in emergency financial relief grants in 120 countries since 2020, assisting individuals impacted by catastrophic disasters and financial hardships. Prior to leading E4E Relief, she worked for Foundation for the Carolinas, where she led advancement, philanthropic services, investments, and legal affairs. Together with the team, she grew the organization from $180 million to nearly $4 billion in charitable assets.

She is an American Marshall Memorial Fellow of the German Marshall Fund and has received the Charlotte Business Journal’s Women in Business award and 40 Under 40 distinction. Welch Stubbing was named one of the Mecklenburg Times’ 50 Most Influential Women in Charlotte and recognized as the Charlotte Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Fundraiser of the Year.

Welch Stubbing holds a Global Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Dayton School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts with honors in speech communications and international studies from Wake Forest University. She is a member of the North Carolina and Tennessee Bar Associations.

“In addition to Holly’s impressive credentials and inquisitive mind, she is a wonderful human being,” said Myers. “She is interested in people and is an interesting person. We see authentic chemistry and partnership with NPT’s team and stakeholders. We are proud to welcome her to NPT.”

Welch Stubbing’s appointment has been made following a robust and competitive national search carried out by NPT’s Board of Trustees in partnership with the leadership advisory and recruiting firm Russell Reynolds Associates.

“Eileen Heisman’s vision and leadership, as well as her passion for philanthropy, grew NPT into one of the largest grantmaking organizations in the world,” said Myers. “On behalf of everyone at NPT, I want to thank her for 27 years dedicated to NPT’s mission of advancing charitable giving and setting the stage for future accomplishments.”
