AirHelp Expands Global Reach with Acquisition of ClaimCompass

The global leader in air passenger rights AirHelp has acquired the flight compensation platform ClaimCompass.

Founded in 2013, the team of 400+ AirHelpers has processed over 16 million claims and has helped over 2 million passengers worldwide. The company was founded by Henrik Zillmer, a former Rocket Internet executive, Nicolas Michaelsen and Greg Roodt and was part of YC W14 and is backed by Khosla Ventures.

ClaimCompass was co-founded in 2015 by Tanya Mitkova, Alexander Sumin and Velizar Shulev, who were part of 500 Startups flagship program in Mountain View and backed by Hustle Fund, Social Capital, and others.

Both companies are focused on helping passengers enforce their rights to compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004. ClaimCompass has made efforts to expand into the US by acquiring Service - a native mobile app which was focused on automating customer service complaints and was backed by Founders Fund, Menlo Ventures and Maveron, in 2020. With ClaimCompass’ claims processing engine, Service was relaunched in the app stores later that year as a comprehensive flight disruption solution with coverage for both - US domestic flights and flights that fall under the EU compensation regulation. A sluggish post-covid travel market made adoption a challenge and without a massive user base the unit economics weren’t viable, so the company eventually ended up sunsetting it.

Throughout the lifetime of the company, ClaimCompass has helped over 500,000 travellers worldwide and processed over $100,000,000 worth of claims with the world’s leading airlines. In a notification to past and present customers, ClaimCompass states that AirHelp is the right partner to continue the work of enforcing EU Regulation 261/2004 and make sure that passengers’ rights remain protected.

Customers with active claims can expect them to be fully processed and can reach out to ClaimCompass via email at support@claimcompass.eu if they have any questions. Travellers with flight disruptions who wish to file a new claim for compensation can do so directly with AirHelp.

The terms of the transaction remain undisclosed.
