South Florida Tornado expected due to El Nino: Here’s what to do

By: NewsUSA

(Matthew Du, NewsUSA Reporter) - Early last month, severe weather moved across South Florida. According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the tornado had 80 mph maximum winds and was on the ground for 1.5 miles.

In the event of a tornado, immediately seek shelter in a basement, storm cellar, or an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows. If outside or in a vehicle, find a sturdy building or lie flat in a ditch, covering your head. Use heavy furniture for protection and cover your head and neck with your arms. Stay informed through a battery-powered weather radio for updates. Avoid windows and do not attempt to outrun a tornado in a vehicle. After the tornado, listen for emergency information, check for injuries, and be cautious of debris and downed power lines. Preparation and quick action are crucial for safety.

This period from now through spring will likely have a little bit of a higher chance of seeing additional weather events due to the El Nino pattern that we are in.
