Northern Michigan Vein Specialists (NMVS) have announced that they are expanding their care in the northern Michigan region and will now be practicing in Alpena. With the launch of their new rented space, NMVS now services the three most populous cities in the region, expanding their reach and bringing exceptional vein care, specialty services, and treatments to Alpena residents and others in the area. The team will practice in Alpena one day per month, offering patients more options for their choice of care at their own convenience.

With venous disease being five times more prevalent than peripheral arterial disease and there being no other providers in the North Eastern region, Aplena and the surrounding areas are very underserved. While many patients have driven from this region to see us in Cadillac and Traverse City, not everyone is able to make that journey on a regular basis. While venous disease is very common, it is often an underexplored and under-treated aspect of care. That’s why it’s important for patients to have options with providers like our team who specialize in researching and treating venous diseases. We are deeply committed to keeping up with everything in the field to continue bringing patients the immense relief the right treatment provides.”
Dr. Heeringa is considered to be among the leading vein surgeons in the country, with NMVS building its reputation over the years as a hub for treatments that are both cosmetic and medical. The Alpena location will be a full-service practice, operating in a more limited capacity on an appointment-only basis to meet patient needs with Dr. Heeringa being the primary practitioner at the rented space.
“Right now, we’re working on launching and creating an effective schedule that’s convenient for patients,” continued Dr. Heeringa. “Vein care is still relatively sidelined, so reaching out in Alpena was a natural next step for NMVS’ growth. Everyone is very excited to bring residents the world-class care NMVS is known for, and I am very grateful to be able to fulfill the need for that care that’s so sought after.”
While the location is a satellite clinic, the services and staff will integrate into the larger NMVS group of practices with the aim of providing comprehensive care. Currently, both NMVS practices in Traverse City and Cadillac offer cosmetic and medical services, but the full list of services at Alpena is still in the works.
“We will offer almost all of the same superficial vein treatments that we offer in our Cadillac and Traverse City offices. This will not just be limited to medically necessary vein care but we will also be able to offer cosmetic sclerotherapy treatments on site in Alpena.,” stated Dr. Heeringa, “We have to go by what people are looking for to optimize our care. Millions of people suffer from venous disease, and anything we can do to reduce that is going to lead to a tangible quality-of-life improvement for patients that we’re proud to have had a hand in.”
NMVS is open and taking appointments for new and existing patients at their Traverse City and Cadillac locations.
