By: PRLog

Memorial Weekend in Vegas just got better with the ABIS Champions and Legends Weekend Honoring Julius Erving, Jemele Hill, and more!

May 23, 2022 - PRLog -- The Advancement of Blacks in Sports has partnered with all-star entrepreneurs and sports professionals to host a weekend of events to advocate for racial equity in sports. The events will take at the Resort World Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, from May 27-29, 2022.

The ABIS Champions and Legends Weekend begins with an exclusive Welcome to "Las Vegas" reception hosted by President Las Vegas Aces, Nikki Fargas. In addition to the reception, the weekend features professional development workshops, educational resources, interactive engagement, and a black-tie banquet and awards show.

The red carpet event will be hosted by Dylan and Dakota Gonzalez and emcee'd by Roqui Theus and Bryan Salmond. Deserving honorees include Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Jemele Hill, Sonny Vaccaro, Dusty Baker, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Jim Thorpe, Shaheen Holloway, and the parents of the late Kobe Bryant; Pamela and Joe.

Sponsors include Bank of America, Freedom Equity Group, Worth Advisors, The W Foundation, EmpireXclusive, Wells Fargo, Gatorade, JPMorgan Chase & Co.

UNLV president Keith Whitfield will also be involved with the Gala.

ABIS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that thrives on community support and fundraising. Their goal is to provide programs and services that eliminate structured, systemic barriers for Black student-athletes and coaches. The inaugural Champions & Legends Weekend is ABIS' leading fundraiser and speaks to their commitment to promoting equal rights and fair treatment of black people in all sports.

"It is about time that a sports award show is done For Us, By Us," ABIS, CEO Gary Charles said. "Some of our greatest stars have gone unnoticed and been forgotten for far too long. We believe that it is time to recognize and honor these individuals. While ABIS cannot honor everyone at once, the committee is excited and looking forward to choosing from the long list of deserving recipients each year. Let's Go!"
