Digital dollar would put Fed in direct competition with bank payment systems, Fed’s Waller says

If the Fed developed a digital currency, it would in direct competition with banks and would be akin to the government to deciding to make electric cars to compete with Tesla, said Fed Gov. Chris Waller on Thursday.
