In 2020, the unforeseeable Covid-19 pandemic shook the world to its very core. Our beloved NHS was thrust into the midst of a tsunami of patients with a shortage of clinicians.
Dr. Harshini Pindolia, 29 years of age, works for the NHS as a dentist. Called to arms alongside other dentists to ensure the NHS did not reach breaking point, she was redeployed to the front line ITU and Covid wards. As well as working late with regular double shifts, she raised funds and PPE for hospitals, food banks, and care homes, work which was praised and featured in numerous newspapers. This book follows the twists and turns of the pandemic, and its effects on an ordinary dentist, her family, and loved ones, as she faced her hardest battle on the front line. It is an unflinching portrayal of her everyday life and work, and the story from inside the system, telling of courage, breakthroughs, trauma, everyday struggles, and even her own brushes with the disease itself.
From her real-life experiences, Dr. Harshini Pindolia bravely and honestly shares the lessons she has learned which we should all take away from this life-changing pandemic.
“During the initial days, every moment was a struggle. I was seeing so many deaths around me, nothing could have prepared me for this. Those days were very tough, but I fought day and night. Every day there was a new hope that this too shall pass. I was utterly shattered both physically and mentally. But if you could have seen the smiles on the faces of the people we managed to help with our efforts, you too would have done the same.” – Dr. Harshini Pindolia
