“She” power at OCS – Guangzhou’s 18-point measures support female scientific and technological workers

By: Get News

Why is it necessary to create an “imaginary enemy” for the failure detection of manned rockets? How to achieve the effect of “hanging weight on the eggshell” for China’s first automatic lunar sampling and return mission? How to build the “first line of defense for disaster prevention and mitigation”? What is the sole computing platform that supports applications across all fields? Women are involved in these mysterious and major technological issues.

On December 17, the 2021 Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents and the 23rd Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “OCS 2021”), which was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Western Returned Scholars Association (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of China), and Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government, was held online. The exchange event “Technology Innovation · Women Power” sponsored by Guangzhou Municipal Women’s Federation and Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau was held in Guangzhou.

This event centered on female power in scientific and technological innovation. In view of the hot topic of aerospace science and technology development, experts, scholars and innovative personnel in related fields were invited to enter into high-level discussions. They introduced China’s achievements in the aerospace industry over the past 60 years, and demonstrated the interpretation of aerospace culture such as the spirit of “missiles, nuclear bombs, and the artificial satellite”, manned spaceflight and lunar exploration by female scientific and technological workers.

The Guangzhou Implementation Plan for Women Initiative in Science and Technology Innovation (hereinafter referred to as the “Plan”) was released during this event. The Plan includes concrete measures such as creating a good scientific research environment and a birth-friendly working environment for female scientific and technological workers during pregnancy and lactation periods, and giving priority for female candidates for major talent programs such as “Talent Recruitment Program” under the same conditions. It supports female scientific and technological workers in their efforts towards self-reliance and improvement.
