IEEE Milwaukee 2021 Science Kits for Public Libraries Grant

By: PRLog

OAK CREEK, Wis. - March 11, 2022 - PRLog -- The Milwaukee section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) presented their 2021 "Science Kits For Public Libraries" (SKPL) grant to the Oak Creek Public Library.

The SKPL grant from IEEE was created to promote library initiatives that exhibit captivating, STEM-related value with a goal to make science kits as accessible as a library book.  Oak Creek Public Library is the third recipient of the IEEE Milwaukee SKPL grant.  A program that started locally in 2019.

This $2,000 grant will fund "STEM Explorer Kit Collections" for checkout at the branch location and will encourage students to experiment and share their findings with their peers.  Each kit will have a journal where students can engage with each other, which is incredibly important given the time we have all spent being socially distanced.

The Oak Creek explorer kits will include STEM studies in Quake Engineering, Gizmos and Gadgets Invention, Chain Reaction, Magnets, Remote Control Gear-Bots, STEM Learning Labs, and more.

"We're excited to have growth in the IEEE SKPL grant." Metro MLS CIO and IEEE Milwaukee vice-chair, Chris Lambrou said.  "Investing in our community while promoting STEM is a dual-win concept for an engineering-focused collective like IEEE".

Funding for the IEEE Milwaukee Science Kits for Public Libraries grant comes from generous donations within the Milwaukee area.  Primary funding for the 2021 SKPL grant was graciously provided by Eaton Corporation.

"The entire IEEE Milwaukee executive committee would like to thank Jill Lininger and her team at the Oak Creek Public Library for this engaging project." said Karthik Palaniappan, IEEE Milwaukee chair.  "STEM learning tools should be available to everyone and we believe the local library is an important part of delivering this concept into a reality".
