Article 5 of the NATO treaty states that "an attack against one Ally is considered an attack against all Allies."

Together, NATO represents nearly one billion people and roughly half of the world's economic and military might. NATO has kept NATO countries safe and helped to keep the peace in Europe for more than 70 years.

Faced with this new reality, Europe and North America must continue to stand united and work closely together in a strong NATO."
