A 350 MW wind farm paired with a 137 MW/204.6 MWh battery storage facility is now operational in Texas.

The Azure Sky project in Throckmorton County is Enel Green Power's first hybrid wind+storage project. It features 79 wind turbines— a mix of Nordex and Vestas models. Wärtsilä supplied the battery storage system.

Enel also announced plans to add energy storage facilities to two existing projects. Battery storage systems of 57 MW/86 MWh will be added to both the Roadrunner solar and High Lonesome wind (pictured below) projects.

Both battery storage systems will air the grid-constrained western region of ERCOT. Paulo Romanacci, head of Enel Green Power's operations in the U.S. and Canada, believes the facilities will "add measurable value" to the existing projects, as well as improve reliability for the grid.

By early 2023, Enel intends to operate a portfolio of 12 battery energy storage systems able to store over 1,290 MWh in Texas.
