Youth Volunteers Group "We Are One" Donates over $8,500 for the underprivileged through "Happy Store Marathon"

‘We Are One’, the youth volunteer group, which has been actively engaged in community service activities, and more than 1,000 of its members participated in a marathon for the underprivileged and donated 11.4 million won (US$8,658) as scholarship.

Chicago, Illinois Apr 19, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - The 1,140 members of We Are One (Head, Junsoo Hong) joined the '10th Happy Store Marathon to Help the Underprivileged' held in the area of  Hangang Park in Yeouido,  Seoul on the 9th. The 'Happy Store Marathon' is a campaign to spread the culture of donation that matches organizations  of 30 or more participants with one underprivileged group and delivers 100%  of the entry fee as a scholarship  . 

In this event, 1,140 members of 'We Are "Run"', a  sub-group of We Are One for the members who like running participated. The entire scholarship of  11.4 million won (US$8,658) raised through the entry fee for this marathon is planned to be used for the underprivileged. 

In particular, We Are One also conducted a pre-event performance that enhanced the  atmosphere before the marathon as an official sponsor for the 10th Happy Store Marathon.

In this marathon,  We Are One members completed the courses of -Half marathon (13.05 miles), -6.2 miles, -3.1 miles, -Walking (3 miles).  Min-chang Kim, a member who completed the 6.2 miles course,  stated, "I prepared little by little whenever I had time. I ran with the goal of finishing rather than setting the record. It was very hard, but I'm glad to finish the race." Kim also said, "It was fun to run while enjoying the full spring energy for the first time in a long time." 

Seungmin Son, General  Manager of We Are "Run", stated, "During the COVID-19 lockdowns affecting education, job training, income and employment, an increasing number of young people feel that they are living a 'stagnant life' physically and mentally. Together with them, We Are One launched the We Are "Run" to adopt the 'running life'", adding, "We ran for our individual goals rather than ranks and participated in especially for the good cause of delivering scholarships to people in need." 

Mr.Hong, head of We Are One, mentioned, "It  was a meaningful time to participate with We Are One members in this marathon that allowed us to promote both physical and mental wellness by making a donation through our run." He also spoke, "It carries a significant impact to deliver the energy and courage to run together and practice sharing through the donations raised by our runs."

We Are One, launched on July 30th last year, consists of approximately 90,000 young members domestic and abroad. For three months from August 27 last year, just over one month after its launch, it held the life sharing campaign of the "Life on Youth On " in which 100,360 people  participated and 73,807 people completed blood donation. Amongst these, the local chapter of We Are One in Chicago partnered with Versiti Blood Center (Versiti) to save just over 270 lives.

Keeping with We Are One's efforts to serve the community, on Earth Day 2023 -  April 22nd, Chicago youth volunteers, "We Are One" will host another blood drive through Versiti  from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oliver McCracken Middle School in Skokie.
