HOUSTON - June 9, 2023 - PRLog -- As the track and field focuses on the NCAA's (www.NCAA.com) Outdoor National Championship meet this week, the Caribbean has it's eye set on the next Masters competition. The Bahamas Masters Association has partnered with Island Relays to host the 2023 Caribbean Masters Championship on September 1 in Freeport Grand Bahama. "We are excited to host the Caribbean, Central America, South America, USA and other countries in September to compete in this Masters' Championship event. The Bahamas will soon be known as the world capital for track and field," Mike Armbrister, President of The Bahamas Masters Association commented. Former Olympians and track and field competitors from around the world are encouraged to participate in The Bahamas Masters competition, which is an open meet. Registration, hotel, travel and other information can be found at https://www.islandrelaysbahamas.com/.
Local Olympians Andretti Bain, www.andrettibain.com (2008 Summer Olympics Silver, Men's 4X4), and Timothy Munnings (2000 Summer Olympics Bronze, Men's 4X4) plans to participate in the upcoming Masters competition. The 2023 Caribbean Masters Championship will be led by former American sprinter Bill Collins as the Meet Director. Collins currently holds five master world records in 100 m. Younger athletes who train with Collins at the Houston Elite track club at Rice University referred to him as "superman" as quoted in his Wikipedia profile. Also, The Bahamas Masters Association has created Masters' training camps in Nassau and Freeport this summer to encourage former athletes and Olympians to compete in this meet.
The event will take place at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex. The Caribbean Masters' Championship is the second event that the Island Relays team have hosted in Grand Bahama this year. In March, the group hosted a Collegiate event where five schools from the US (University of South Carolina, University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M University, University of Arizona and Vanderbilt University) and the University of the Bahamas participated. The group is planning to host the collegiate event annually in Grand Bahama. The Caribbean Masters' Championship may be hosted on other islands in the Caribbean in the future.
The Bahamas is also preparing to host the 2024 World Relays and have recently hosted several professional meets organized by NACAC (https://www.athleticsnacac.org/calendar/).
