On July 19, the 2023 Huli Overseas Scholar and Professionals Tour officially kicked off in Xiamen, China. Through activities such as project roadshow, policy presentation, project matchmaking and field visit, the event aims to facilitate exchanges and connections among talents, the government and enterprises, help participants gain insights into talent policies and business environment of Huli District, and promote the introduction and implementation of high-level international innovation and entrepreneurship technology and projects in the district.

The 30 invited overseas doctors and outstanding masters are mainly from the United States, Singapore, Australia and other countries and regions. Many of them come from prestigious universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Cambridge, and Nanyang Technological University. Doctors and post-doctoral talents account for 90% of the invitees. The invited talents primarily focus on research areas such as software information services, integrated circuit design, artificial intelligence, and auto parts manufacturing.
On the morning of July 19, the 30 overseas high-level talents first visited Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Memorial Hall to learn about the development, reform and changes that Xiamen has undergone. As the birthplace of the Xiamen SEZ, Huli has always upheld the pioneering and trailblazing spirit of the SEZ, and it has become a true portrayal of the rapid development of the Xiamen SEZ. Later, the overseas scholars visited Huihe Stone Cultural Park, where they experienced the unique charm of the national intangible cultural heritage – Huihe stone-shadow carving, gained a more comprehensive understanding of Huli, and felt the warm and profound cultural atmosphere of the district.

On the afternoon, five groups of overseas talents demonstrated their relevant project experience and technological achievements during the project roadshow. Then they had in-depth exchanges and negotiations with investment promotion specialists and venture capitalists. They were deeply attracted by the favorable business environment, great innovation and entrepreneurship vitality, and strong policy support in the Huli District, and gained greater confidence and motivation to implement their projects in the district.

On the morning of July 20, the overseas scholars visited Huli Innovation Park and several representative companies such as Xiamen Yealink Network Technology Co., Ltd. and Xiamen Leedarson Digital Education Technology Co., Ltd., allowing them to know the emphasis and support that the Huli District has placed on talent, technology and business environment. In recent years, the Huli District has precisely made efforts in areas such as Party building and leadership, enterprise services, and supporting living facilities. Its innovation-driven and well-served development environment is suitable for living and working, leaving a deep impression on the invited talents.

The two-day visits are fruitful. Dr. Yu from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said that he was very happy to tour Xiamen. The city, known as the “Garden of the Sea,” boasts beautiful ecological environment, open and inclusive cultural and economic atmosphere, an international vision, as well as friendly talent settlement policies, making it an ideal place for young innovators and entrepreneurs to settle down.
In recent years, the Huli District has deeply implemented the strategy of “Attracting Talents to Huli,” continuously optimized talent evaluation standards, upgraded talent service policies, and played the leading and exemplary role of outstanding talents. The district focuses on strengthening of mechanisms, establishment of platforms, and supply of excellent services, to create an environment that values and respects talents, and puts talents first. While building platforms to serve talents at home and abroad and backbone talents in key industries, the district also organizes branded events such as “Talent Service Month,” “Tsinghua Alumni Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship Competition” and Huli District Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, to promote the implementation of innovation and entrepreneurship projects in Huli and contribute to the district’s high-quality development.
