Pennsylvania man attacked by bear after walking into his garage

A Pennsylvania man was attacked and injured after walking into his garage and encountering a bear that had made its way onto his property, video shows.

A Pennsylvania man is counting his blessings after he survived a bear attack at his home last week.

The encounter was captured on home video and shared by the man’s wife, Lori Swartz, on Facebook

The video shows a medium-sized bear strolling onto the couple’s property in Danville, Pennsylvania, and disappearing into the garage as two cats watch.

Moments later, John Swartz appears on-screen and walks into the garage, not knowing what awaits him. Less than 10 seconds later, the cats appear startled by a noise and jump out of their chairs.

Swartz stumbles out of the garage entryway, holding his head as he frantically makes his way back into the house.

A few moments pass and the bear can be seen exiting the garage and wandering off the couple’s property.

Swartz later told FOX 56 the bear encounter was so quick that he only assessed what had happened after it left.

"My head hurt and it knocked me against the wall, little did we know until we received the video as to what happened outside, I didn’t realize I fell over the bear and continued down the sidewalk holding my head and continued into the house to retrieve a washcloth," Swartz told the outlet. "I had injuries and I had blood coming down."

Swartz was taken to Geisinger Medical Center where he was treated for bite marks and given a tetanus shot.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission told Fox News Digital its troopers responded to the couple’s home for assistance. The agency has set up a trap to capture the bear responsible.

Danville is located in central Pennsylvania, about 65 miles north of Harrisburg.

A similar event happened on Monday in Idaho. A black bear that was with a cub attacked a man as he opened his garage door. The injured man called wildlife officials who ultimately killed the bear and its cub in the interest of public safety.
