DESCRIPTION:
Cherilyn Yazzie, Owner of Coffee Pot Farms, knows firsthand the physical, economical and generational barriers she has worked through to be a successful farmer in the desert lands of northern Arizona.
With the lack of access to capital and living off-the-grid in the Navajo Nation, everything Cherilyn and her husband Mike do to keep the business running is completely self-sufficient and manually brought in — even water and electricity.
From the break of dawn until the night’s end, this dynamic duo works endlessly to tackle their never-ending farmer’s checklist, prepare for farmers markets and make other pivots to generate income during the harsh pandemic.
While putting in the work to ensure her way of life as an entrepreneur never comes to an end, Cherilyn works even harder to educate the community on the importance of health, so the Navajo Nation continues to flourish.
After having the opportunity to participate in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, they have high hopes that their efforts will be fruitful and turn their labor of love into a thriving business.
